Institutes and Integrity

"Like many others since, they came to equate
knowing God with being a member of their group."¹

Groups have a tendancy to form behind charismatic leaders, but over time become reliant on organisation and bureaucracy. Protecting the group becomes more important than the original values and vision.

  • Can we protect our integrity whilst remaining part of the organisation?
  • Is spliting from the organisation a valid option or shallow escape?
  • Is it ever possible for the organisation to regain its orginal passion?

"[Jesus] had nearly inexhaustible patience with individuals
but no patience at all with institutions and injustice."²

When protecting the reputation of the group becomes more important than the pastoral care of individuals, it's time for that group to change or die.
