gtalk/ichat
I've been convinced to move from skype to gtalk...or at least give it a go.
So, I'm using gmail (which includes a jabber-based ID) which will work with gtalk (for PC's), ichat (for Mac) or any jabber-based client.
My new username is mars.hill77 at gmail dot com. Don't send email here, because I won't be checking it, just using it for messaging and 'phone' conversations. If you want a gmail invitation, just let me know.

Does GTalk have an equivalent for Skype Out? That's actually the feature I use most...
It doesn't at the moment. gtalk is still in beta, and there are some teething hassles.
I've found that ichat can easily IM with gtalk, but I can't actually or video-conference with gtalk users yet.
I understand they're committed to making this work in future releases.
So, after playing around a bit, I'm going to be running this alongside skype until some of those features are made available. If all goes to plan, I'll transition to the ichat/gtalk combo, since they use the open-source jabber protocol, which means you aren't tied into one client.
