Talk To Her (Hable Con Ella)
On the recommendation of a friend, I recently watched Talk To Her (Hable Con Ella) (Almodóvar, 2002)(imdb) and really enjoyed it. It certainly wasn't faultless, slow at times and overdone at others, but like the dances it portrayed the melodrama was what made it ring true.
The film begins with two poignant dances and these, I believe, set the tone and over-riding metaphor for the film. The characters move through obstacles, one rushing to try to clear a safe path, but it ultimately ends in destruction and death.
Despite the poor reviews on fatso (from whence my DVD's come), I think film is richer for Hable con ella, I hope you enjoy it.

I'll certainly check it out. I agree with the disjointed feeling, but I think it added something...It seemed almost hyper-real -- like the dances. I guess that's what I enjoyed, despite the faults.
