WMD and tourism

Continuing the political theme...

Looking through some old notes (2001) I found this wonderful piece of satire. Unfortunately I failed to record my source.

In the light of Colin Powell's recent assertion that unmanned Iraqi aircraft is evidence of a chemical and biological agent distribution scheme, I present to you further undisputable evidence that Iraq possesses the means to deploy such agents en masse: Consider the Anthrax scares in the United States in late 2001. Anthrax was distributed in the mail using ordinary envelopes as the delivery mechanism. I ask, 'How many envelopes do the Iraqis possess, and what is their envelope manufacturing capability?' In the absence of fully formed envelopes, we must also investigate Iraq's possession of envelope components, such as paper, bags, and glue.

In a not-so-recent Hi Vocabulary class we decided, having looked through several newspapers that, according to usage, "WMD" must mean "sand".

I'll have to look out one of my all-time favourite poems too. Found it!

I'd love to own some of Harryette Mullen's books. Feel free to purchase one for me. (My address is in the sidebar.)

Re: Evil Tourists

We strongly condemn the unthinkable acts of the evil tourists
who attack our foundations and threaten our culture. Tourists and those who accommodate them will be held accountable for this unspeakable atrocity. Our mission will be to root out all tourist activities. We're going to smoke them out and round
them up, dead or alive. We'll find the tourists, drag them out of their camps and their caves, wherever they hide. We'll make them pay for their dastardly acts. We are authorized to track all tourist activity. Our goal is to stamp out international tourism wherever it originates. We understand that tourism knows no borders. We'll take a hard look at the flow of money in and out of tourist groups and the communications among them. Their unimaginable destruction has shattered our sense of security and violated everything we hold dear. But the evil acts of these tourists will not stand nor will we stand for them.

I think the source of your Iraq satire may be this weblog.

I think you may be right.
