Philosophy of blogging

I quote from the DNRC Newsletter:

People who are trying to decide whether to create a blog or not go through a thought process much like this:

1. The world sure needs more of ME.
2. Maybe I’ll shout more often so that people nearby can experience the joy of knowing my thoughts.
3. No, wait, shouting looks too crazy.
4. I know – I’ll write down my daily thoughts and badger people to read them.
5. If only there was a description for this process that doesn’t involve the words egomaniac or unnecessary.
6. What? It’s called a blog? I’m there!

The upshot of all this ranting is that Scott Adams has launched the Dilbert Blog. (Link in sidebar.) It's reasonably enjoyable now, I look forward to where it will go.

However, I must confess that my motivation was somewhat different. It went...

1. I always forget interesting things.
2. I alway forget uninteresting things that I may wish to remember.
3. I can't be bothered writing it all down...How can I motivate myself?
4. I'll make myself accountable to a growing international audience.
5. Maybe someone will ask me to publish a book.
6. Other people are sinners too. Ergo, they deserve entry to my mind.

In other associated news, my friend Anna has started a blog too. (The link is also in the sidebar.)
