Justice? More speeding fines for NZ
"The Ministry of Justice has calculated what happens around the country on an average day:
* Police answer 1462 emergency calls and 2571 other calls.
* 1085 crimes are recorded.
* 1036 on-road speed traffic and infringement notices are issued.
* 327 cases are referred for prosecution by the police."
And, "The police advice indicates the 10km/h tolerance policy police have operated since 2000 will be removed." (source)
You may soon be fined for travelling 51km/hr in a 50 zone! How much damage is caused by people driving at 51? or 55? or 59 for that matter!
The person who hit me was doing less than 30km/hr.
Taking away the 10km/hr cushion is stupid and until I see some reasonable statistics I can only assume its a attempt to meet tighter income budgets and hack off the majority of those "normal New Zealanders" that the politicians keep talking about.
Does anyone know of a petition to lodge complaint against this change?
3 Comments:
Freepost to the members of parliament would be the way to go: -
1. Directly relating to the 10km/h margin, and,
2. Explicitly telling the police that there is no longer a revenue target from fines.
Just got out of bed so this might ramble quite a bit ;-)
