Lady Madonna
I've been getting older. I can tell because I never sleep past 8:30 (yes, am) anymore. Work schedules and a theoretical commitment to my own research on sleep dictates that I rise between 7:30-8:00 about 28 days a month. Yuck!
Anyway, I've been trying to pray a little somewhere in my morning schedule. I've been reading various Celtic prayers and the form often connects with me. The return to liturgy is refreshing.
Anyway's, I often begin, "Early in the morning..." and the prayer turns into Lady Madonna!
Lady Madonna, children at your feet.(Lennon/McCartney)
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet.
Who finds the money? When you pay the rent?
Did you think that money was heaven sent?
Friday night arrives without a suitcase.
Sunday morning creep in like a nun.
Monday's child has learned to tie his bootlace.
See how they run.
Lady Madonna, baby at your breast.
Wonder how you manage to feed the rest.
See how they run.
Lady Madonna, lying on the bed,
Listen to the music playing in your head.
Tuesday afternoon is never ending.
Wednesday morning papers didn't come.
Thursday night your stockings needed mending.
See how they run.
Lady Madonna, children at your feet.
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet.
So, I'm going to try and rework the lyrics into my prayer...As tempting as it is to move towards Marian prayer, I'm going to keep it aimed trinityish.
